Aloha Friday: March 2024 Newsletter

Aloha, it’s Friday!

March 1, 2024

Does anyone else feel like they’re still coming out of the 2023 hangover? It seems to me like there have been so many visitors out here and so many things that took my time over the last two months that I’m just now starting to settle in to 2024. A very large portion of me wants to go off the grid for a few months to just work and get stuff done.

That said, I’m just starting to go through images from my trip to Alaska in July. We went up there for a week or so then jumped on a cruise ship for a one way sail to Vancouver. It was great, but in my opinion Alaska in the summer time doesn’t compare to Alaska in the winter. I’m a sucker for the snow and ice and frozen landscapes.

Have you visited Alaska in the summer and winter? If so, which do you prefer?

Thought of the month:

Know Yourself.

I’d be willing to bet that 99% of people don’t really know themselves. That includes the guy writing this. I often take time to meditate and ask myself questions, but really being truly honest with yourself and getting to the core of what makes people tick is another level. I think most people react to events and circumstances based on a character they’ve developed themselves to be over time. But I bet if you really stripped everything away many of us would find that our true selves are not the person we pretend to be. No judgment, just an observation from a guy who is trying to learn who he is.

What I’m working on:

Last month I mentioned that I was committing to writing more and working to develop courses and be more active on social media. I still am, but there’s been a slight change. The investing courses that I’m writing I was going to do under the name Maui Investor, but something was tugging me away from that. It felt limiting. And maybe a little confusing too. I want the courses to be designed for people in any market to be able to learn to earn passive income and grow generational wealth through real estate. I didn’t want it to seem like you had to invest on Maui or whatever.

So, I changed the branding from Maui Investor to “Our Family Invests.” I secured all the social media accounts (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, etc) and the domain name ( as a place where we can share our writings and what we’re learning and doing to grow our net worth. If any of that sounds like something you might want to learn about, please check out the website or any of the social accounts (namely Instagram, as I honestly can’t figure out Facebook… or TikTok… and we haven’t posted anything on YouTube yet). Hahaha

Booked my tickets to the Better Life event in Denver the first weekend in May. Anybody going to be there for that? I may try to sneak in another little photography trip before or after that if anyone wants to join me…

What I’m Reading

I just finished this book called “Launch” by Jeff Walker. It’s all about how to setup launch campaigns for new products and services. It was recommended to me by my friend Matt and it was fantastic. I think it will really help with the launch of the courses in a few months.

The next book is called “Building a Story Brand” by Donald Miller. This is another book about marketing and positioning your brand in the marketplace. It was recommended by my friend Nathalie and it is also fantastic. A lot of simple strategies that seem so obvious after reading them, but sadly went unnoticed by me until now. Both books are great if you are building or running a brand.

Alaska Photography:

I really love big stoic mountains with snow capped peaks in black and white. So I shot a lot of them. Here are some of my favorites and a few others from a wonderful trip!

Alaska, USA

I think this is my favorite. I love the way the cloud is just hanging in there halfway up the mountain. This one was taken from the balcony of the cruise ship.

Alaska, USA

These peaks are almost reminiscent of Torres del Paine in Patagonia, aren’t they? Maybe not as cool, but I liked them anyway.

Alaska, USA

I rarely shoot my 70-200mm f2.8 lens, but on this trip it was my go to. I didn’t even bring my wide angle! Another one shot from the balcony of my room.

Alaska, USA

Glaciers don’t suck, but this was as close as we got to one on the ship. That kinda sucked, I guess. And the fact that the security on the boat wouldn’t let me fly my drone over to it. That sucked.

Alaska, USA

Are you getting tired of these panoramic shots yet? Alright fine, one or two more then I’ll move on…

Alaska, USA

I mean, just wow. How majestic is this place?!

Alaska, USA

I shot this one about halfway to Valdez. We drove for a few hours from Anchorage and this was as far as we got. I’m not sure if you know this, but Alaska is big. Like really big. And outside of Anchorage, there’s not much going on (other than amazing landscapes everywhere you look).

Alaska, USA

One of the ports we stopped at had these three pillars coming out of the water. I thought it was quite fitting that a giant bald eagle was perched on top of one of them. Alaska. Freaking awesome.

Alaska, USA

This was actually taken in the same port as the previous image above. I thought it was a pretty cool little abstract composition.

Alaska, USA

These forests were so thick with trees, and the color from the morning sun playing on them was just fantastic. I’m not sure if you appreciate it as much as I do, but I love this stuff! It makes me feel happy inside.

Alaska, USA

Talk about loving this stuff. I love this kid. Sometimes he acts like he’s all grown up. Sometimes he acts like a clown (most of the time). But sometimes he acts like a kid. He’s fascinated by the little things and loves exploring, and I love that. I hope he never loses his sense of wonder.

That’s it for now. Go out and CRUSH today! Make memories and be your best self! Thank you for taking a little time out of your day for me. I really appreciate you!
