Ataraxia

On the morning I shot this, I really had no intention of shooting this pier.  I had scoped out another place nearby, but as I setup just before sunrise, the sprinkles began. It was not a big deal at first, but then the clouds got thicker and the rain got a bit heavier. I found shelter underneath this pier and while waiting for the rains to pass I started shooting this scene here.  As the sun started to come up it was evident the rain would still be a variable, so I stayed put. Plus, I really liked the pier I was shooting here. The way the swells were coming in and out made the longer exposure shot come out with an effect that made the ocean look like it was iced over. Getting the timing right on the exposure to get this effect was a little tricky, but in the end this came out great!  If you've been to Kauai, especially in the winter time you probably got rained on, and if you were up in this area, you may have hid from the rains under this pier too!
