Enchanted

This location wasn’t on my list of places to visit during my photography excursion through Canada. It just so happened I was looking to photograph an area nearby when this came into view. When I saw it, I knew it was a really nice composition. My only problem with it was that there were several other people photographing it and I usually try to avoid any man-made structures in my pieces.

That said, this was too good to pass up. I shot around the area a little more, waiting for the evening to creep in. I wanted that twilight/dusk light for this piece. Funny thing is, when the sun dropped, all the other shooters left. I had this area alone in the perfect light.

A soft fog rolled in, covering part of the mountain and trees. The color on the stream was magnificent and the blue tones that permeated through the snow to the sky were incredible. It was my last image of a very long day, but I knew it was worth a little extra time to photograph this masterpiece.

This was one of four images I submitted to the 2016 International Photographic Competition. “Enchanted” took home top honors and was entered into the Professional Photographers of America’s coveted “Loan Collection,” a traveling collection of the most prized images of the year from photographers around the world.
