Liquid Sunshine

Kihei, Wailea and Makena make up the area of South Maui and it is one of the most epic spots on earth. If you're looking to relax and enjoy paradise, this is it.  Perfect weather, perfect water temperature and perfect golden sand beaches. This piece, Liquid Sunshine, was taken on Makena Beach, also known as Oneloa Beach or more commonly among locals, "Big Beach."  There are few places on the planet more inviting than the sands of Oneloa, but among all it's beauty lies a formidable shore break that is not to be taken lightly, especially on days with big South swells. I actually have video of when I shot this piece and you can tell from the video the power of the ocean. I shot this down on my knees with my camera about 8" off the sand and the water quickly came up around me as I was photographing this image. I had to do a very thorough job of cleaning the salt water off my camera and away from all my gear after this shoot!
