Artist notes:

Sunrise at Lanikai Beach is like no other place in Hawai’i.  Even before sunrise the beach is alive with dog walkers, joggers, yogis, paddlers, and yes, photographers.  I wasn’t sure I was going to even see the sunrise this day as the rains were intermittent throughout the night and on my journey to the beach.  In fact, to the left of the sun you can see some of the rain clouds and some falling rain in the image.  The nice thing about the rain is that it sets a dramatic mood and really helps to explode the colors in the sky.  So as unbelievable as this shot appears, its the real deal! The waters of Kailua are quintessentially turquoise and the sand is softer than silk. Lanikai is one of my favorite areas on O’ahu.
