Artist notes:

It was a cloudless night at 3am when I started the 2 hour drive from my house to this cave in Hana, Maui.  Of course I was virtually the only truck on the road as I traversed the winding highway of sharp turns and steep cliffs before arriving in Hana.  I pulled my gear off the truck and hiked a little ways to get to this location I had found a few days prior.  I had noticed the direction it faced and knew this time of year the sun would rise within view from inside this cave.  The black sand beach and crystal blue waters would make an excellent backdrop and so as I setup my gear, fumbling in the dark, I prayed for an incredible show as the sun broke the horizon.

After nearly a half-hour of cloudy skies, I caught a break.  The skies opened up just a touch and I got maybe 30 seconds of sun that blasted the scene with more light than I could handle.  I quickly fired away and was super fortunate to capture this incredible sight!
